Factory Seconds Brass Trio presented an all-Hindemith program with faculty pianist Christine Fuoco and guest pianist Christina Dahl.
The group performed three of Hindemith’s instrumental sonatas and featuring "Ludus Tonalis," his massive counterpoint homage to J. S. Bach, in a new interpretation for brass and piano.
Richard Stout: "The Hindemith concert is a unique challenge, particularly the Ludus Tonalis which was a pretty unknown work to me before. Whereas the sonata is so perfectly written for the trombone, in its wheelhouse of big tone while leaving the really hard parts to the piano, playing the transcription of Ludus gives each of us some very technical passages to execute. This, combined with the musical challenge of bringing to life the counterpoint and character of the pieces make it a really fun project."
